Normandy has got to be one of the nicest places I've ever visited. The stunning architecture, the lush green landscape and the character and history of the place made me want to stay a lot longer than I did.
We stayed in a hotel just outside Honfleur in very peaceful surroundings. On the first day whilst driving into Honfleur we passed a field with a bunker in the field and what looked like the remains of a lot of 'broken' bunkers.
Further along the road we stopped at a carpark for a picnic. We decided to go for a walk as it was sunny and happened to stumble upon some beautiful gardens. I think it was called the 'garden of artists' or something similar. In the garden were statues of various famous artists from the area. There was also a large lily pond which had an island in the centre with a bridge to it. On the island was a statue of Claude Monet. This garden was one of the best 'finds' of the trip and I could have easily spent all day there in the sunshine!
We spent the last day of the trip following the route of the troops from the D-day landings. We saw the Merville battery, the Grand Bunker and the Pegasus Bridge as well as other famous landmarks. It was a lovely place and one I would love to go back to. Some photos from the trip are in my gallery.
